You cannot insult a person into the Kingdom of God. The Athenians were idol worshippers? Yes, and Paul knew it, and it grieved his spirit, but he sought common ground on which to begin a conversation.
Discussion Questions for Growth Groups
Read through Acts 17. What were your “take aways” from this passage and this weeks message?
The sub-title of the message was "Finding common ground." How have you found "common ground" helpful in your relationships (business, marriage, children, politics, spirituality,...)? Share an example.
How do you wrestle with the tension in talking with someone whose life is so contradictory to your own by finding common ground in order to have a spiritual conversation with them?
Now look at verses 22-23. What strategies did Paul employ to lower his hearers defenses and earn the right to be heard?
"You cannot insult a person into the Kingdom of God." Have you turned people off to Jesus by starting with judgement? Have you experienced this in your own spiritual history?
